Our Modern Farmhouse - Home Tour

Hello my friends and welcome! I know, I know, it’s been a minute but we’ve been busy this year! We moved into our newly built farmhouse nearly a year ago, but we’ve been growing grass, planting gardens, building shed and decorating and…more decorating. Of course there is always more to do, but as the winter months set in, I thought it was about time to share some of our progress and take you on our modern farmhouse home tour.

Dean loves rustic, in fact if he had his way, we would live in a little log cabin in the middle of the woods. I on the other hand, am a girl who loves whites, creams, soft hues and most importantly, a serene, open and airy feeling. In my mind, few things mesh better than wood, stone and a soft airy surrounding and what could be more gorgous than a modern farmhouse to pull it all together.

open concept farmhouse style living room with fire place cladded with Shale Stone in colour Hudson — This fireplace was done using a faux stone by Shale Stone in the colour Hudson, with natural coloured mortar. It was designed for home exteriors but I loved it so much more than any of the interior options, so we decided to use it inside. It has the same authentic look and feel of many of the old churches around here. The mantle came from a local barn and the carpet is the Verena Dark Wood rug from Ruggable.

loft and ceiling beams — This is the loft, a perfect office space. It’s the part of the house that most resembles the log cabin feel Dean was looking for. Notice the front door too? This house was built during Covid and that was literally the only door we could get. It’s since been replaced!

This island is ideal for our family. There is just enough room for the fella’s to sit and have lunch and it’s perfect for entertaining guests.

The smaller pillows are from Ikea. This is a great place to find affordable pillow covers and feather inserts. The inserts are for a 20inch pillow but they are a quarter of the price of anywhere else. Double them up to get that nice full look and they will fill a 22 inch pillow cover perfectly.

All the deck furniture has been put away but during the spring and summer months, this is the perfect area to sit back and enjoy the evening.

Well, that’s about it for now for our modern farmhouse home tour.
